Motorcycle Emergency First Aid Level 3 – MEFA

This comprehensive Level 3 First Aid Course has been meticulously developed by highly experienced paramedic trainers and medical doctors who are also dedicated motorcyclists. Their combined expertise ensures that the course content is both practical and relevant to real-world riding scenarios.

About this course

Motorcyclists are at a higher risk of injury compared to other road users due to their exposed position and lack of protective barriers. Accidents can happen unexpectedly, and being prepared to respond effectively can make a critical difference. Possessing the knowledge and skills to provide immediate assistance in the event of a motorcycle accident can be lifesaving.

Designed specifically for motorcyclists who may find themselves the first on the scene of an accident, this training program equips participants with essential skills to manage medical emergencies confidently and effectively. The curriculum is based on the proven techniques used by NHS ambulance services, ensuring that the methods taught align with current professional standards in pre-hospital care.

Participants will learn how to assess a casualty, manage life-threatening conditions, and provide critical interventions until professional emergency services arrive. Emphasis is placed on trauma management, CPR, controlling bleeding, and ensuring the safety of both the casualty and the responder. By completing this course, riders will gain not only essential first aid knowledge but also the confidence to act decisively in challenging situations, potentially saving lives when it matters most.

What’s Covered in MEFA?

MEFA (Motorcycle Emergency First Aid) covers essential life-saving techniques and emergency response skills for motorcyclists and first responders. The course includes:

  • Danger Awareness – Assessing the accident scene for potential hazards to ensure the safety of both the responder and the casualty.
  • Cardiac Arrest & CPR – Recognizing cardiac arrest, performing effective chest compressions, and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) if available.
  • Major Haemorrhage & Injuries – Managing severe bleeding, applying pressure dressings, using tourniquets, and recognizing signs of shock.
  • Spinal Injuries & Helmet Removal – Safely assessing and handling a casualty with potential spinal injuries, including the correct method for removing a helmet if necessary to provide life-saving care while minimizing the risk of further injury.
